Testing

If you would like to have your water tested, a pretty comprehensive test kit is from National Testing Laboratories. You can purchase a kit for Well Water or City Water.

Some Types of Filters

1. Whole House Filtration System – If you own property and can afford it, a whole house filtration system can help protect your external body as well as your internal body. We recommend that you find a system that uses at least sixty pounds of filter media and can produce eight or more gallons a minute. Look for NSF certification, which means the water filter is meeting national standards. It is also good to make sure all particles under 0.8 microns are being filtered out of the water, because that filters out most bacteria, viruses and volatile organic compounds (VOCS). The best filtration system we have found is made by Winston Kao (as of this printing, 2/12/19) (www.idealeathwater.com) 727-447-2344. 2. Shower Filter - The toxins you absorb through your skin and lungs in hot showers can surpass the damage done by drinking unfiltered water. This is because the body may be able to eliminate many toxins with help from your intestinal tract bacteria if you drink it. In one 10 minute shower we absorb 6 glasses worth of chlorine through our skin. Shower Filters are typically low-cost and easy to install. They are effective in removing chlorine and some can remove some fluoride. They must be changed frequently depending on how much toxic material is in your water supply. Some types can filter out most fluoride. 3. Water Filter Pitcher – This low-cost, convenient method uses activated carbon to filter water. This is effective in removing chlorine, sediment, some metals, and some VOCs. It also improves the taste and the smell of the filtered water. The filter must be changed frequently depending on how much material is in the water supply.

Popular Methods of Water Filtration

1. Activated Carbon or Charcoal is a form of carbon that has been processed to maximize the number of pores on them. When it is used to treat a liquid, the pollutant molecules are trapped inside these pores. This method is effective in removing chlorine, sediment, and VOCs. These filters must be changed frequently, depending on how much toxic chemicals are in your water supply. 2. Reverse osmosis is a method of water filtering in which water is forced through a membrane with small pores. These pores allow water to run through, and the purified water is then collected while the water with the pollutants is flushed away. This method is expensive and bulky but highly effective in removing many heavy metals, chemicals, pollutants, parasites and viruses. Minerals must be added back into the water after filtration, before drinking.

3. Ultraviolet water purifying systems use light of high frequency to irradiate water through a glass element. As water passes through the element, all living microorganisms in it are killed including parasites, bacteria, and viruses. It does not remove metals or chemicals from the water.
